Our
Ashtanga
Lineage
Ashtanga Yoga was originally taught, in a slightly different form, by Krishnamacharya to K. Pattabhi Jois. Pattabhi Jois s known for bringing it to the West and popularizing the Ashtanga Yoga method. One of Pattabhi Jois's first Western students was the great Nancy Gilgoff.
Megan first met Nancy in 2015 at an Ashtanga Yoga Conference in Bali. Megan was both in awe of and intimidated by Nancy, who walked with such presence and power in her absolute knowing of herself and all that is good in the practice and the world. Megan took her first trip to learn from Nancy in Maui in 2016. After that, Megan spent time learning from Nancy each year. She was fortunate to also attend Primary and Intermediate Series adjustment clinics with Nancy, who tried to preserve the Ashtanga Yoga method by teaching only how her teacher (Pattabhi Jois) taught her. In 2019, Megan took what would be her last trip to Maui to practice with Nancy.
Megan began practicing with her teacher Angela Jamison in 2021, around the same time she opened Sattva. Angela, like Nancy, has a strong connection to and respect for the Ashtanga Yoga method and her teacher, the late Sharath Jois. Angela is not only a teacher for Megan--she is a role model on how to hold space for others, walk the path of Truth, and hold space for the Ashtanga practice that has transformed her life. Megan feels eternally grateful to learn from her.
